My 10cents worth....

I think it's hilarious trying to use stats to signify how good/bad a team would/could/should be.

The argument is old, boring., tedious, oh and yes - did I mention boring?

Wallaroo likes to (repeatedly) point out that rugby is 4th, or 5th or 101st prefered sport (depending on which day of the week it is) in Australia and competes with League, Soccer, AFL, Tiddlywinks and I think, sister swapping in Tasmania. Trotting out all sorts of stats to verify/justify his argument.

Then you get others (Rukker, tackleup etc) taking up the statistical challenge and quoting different numbers to negate/belittle or just down right argue that Wallaroo is wrong..

But the only stats that count IMO are

* whats the score at full time?
* did *put any team here* beat England?
* how many trophies is that now in the AB's cabinet?

Lol @ Rosemarie

You can't "technically" win a test match or any game actually. The final sore tells you the winner.

Sure penalties were missed, but even if one were landed it changes the game completelty, as the restart is at the halfway not, inside the AB 22. It's called the "butterfly" effect and changes what happens next, inbcluding the palce and time of any subsequent penalties. Taken to the nth degree, this could mean that if the 1st penalty landed the others may well never have occured.

I still canty believe that a team that finished 6th on points gets to host a home final against a team that has more points than them. I said it at the time and I'll say it now, the use of a conference to determine the top 3 only ensures tyhat the weaker aussie conference is gauranteed a place in the finals and therefore home ground advantage.

Yes the Reds won it last year, but I'm sure you'll find this is an aberration rather than the norm. Both SA and the AB's were more focused on the RWC, whilst the Aussies simply wanted any decent trophy for their cabinet.

Kudos to John O'neil for sucker punching both the SARU and NZRU, but realistically the Aussie Conference is far weaker than both the SA and NZ ones.

So looking forward to this game.

IMO this series will be the best chance yet for the Irish to break their 'duck' against the AB's. That said, I strongly believe that the game would have to be lost by the AB's with a poor performance from them and a strong one by the Irish.

The Irish have always shown passion and commitment in their games against the AB's, and like many other sides, always lift against them. Many AB teams talk of the huge physical commitment when playing the Irish, at home or on tour. However, aside from BOD, in his younger days, IMO the Irish lack the X-factor players that set the AB's, Wallabies and 'Boks apart. The Lomu's, Cullens, Daggs, Savea (potentially), Habana's, Beales, O'Conners etc.

Good luck to both teams and go the AB's!

I still think Hosea must have slept with someones daughter. For him to misss out to Guildford doesn't make sense, unless you consider Hansen didnt want 2 big strong wingers.

IMO Gear is as quick as Guildford, or so close that it doesn't matter, stronger - both on D and with ball in hand, has more skills in attack in that, unlike Guildford, who has to be put into space by others, and then relies on his pace, Hosea is strong enough to break the line himself, and still has the pace to take any space created by others.

Hang in there Hosea, in the words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does", so eventually Guildford will once again fail either on the paddock, as in the 3N 2011, or in the pub, as in Rarotonga.

rofl once again....

Once again Wales coulda, shoulda, didn't. All anyone needs to do is look at the post gamer comments from the Welsh, coaches, trainers, players, press etc... from the last 10-20 tests against the AB's.

In essence it's all about "we didn't take our opportunities", "we made enough chances to win the game", blah blah blah.

The AB captain Ian Kirk[patrick got it right, his famous quote is "You never beat the Welsh, you just score more points than them". Ironicvally, in this instance it's an imaginary "If we had been good enough to make the final, we woulda, coulda"

@ Hightackel #50

Sadly ('cause I'm a Wellington boy living in OZ) I think you're right. Hammett and the 'canes board have managed to decimate what talent they had, because the coach wasn't able to adjust to the myriad of personalities at the 'canes. I'm not sure where the logic of 'sweeping the floor clean and starting again' to facilitate the limitations of the newvbie coach, came from. But, no team that loses the likes of Weepu, Hore, Cruden, Nonu, Nialata and I think Gear and Schwalger, and replaces them with (as yet) unknown talent, should expect anything other than miracles to help them achieve any reasonable success. IMO Hammett is anything but a messiah in the rugby coaching stakes, so I wont be holding my breath for miraculous results, and as much as it pains me, I'm actually putting my hard earned cash on the 'canes to finish last in the NZ S15 Conference 2012. I just hope when Hammett gets crucified the Board does too.

ROFL @ I luv CS....

According to your logic about Canterbury being the core of the AB's strength and therefore as a S15 side would beat the AB's, Corey Flynn is a better player than Mealamu and Hore (both members of the AB's leadership team), George Whitelock is better than Kaino at 6, Fruen and SBW are NZ's best centres, despite the fact that the RWC press rated Nonu and SMityh as tyhe best combno running around, Guildford and Maitland are far better than Jane, Kahui or even Gear. Weepu is no good compared to Ellis.... etc etc...

Get your hand off it mate. Whilst I fully respect the Crusaders and admit some of the AB's finest players are from Canterbury, to suggest that a single province of NZ is better than the national side suggests that your not one-eyed, but blind to the talent outside the province. I'm sure your mother must have told you to "Stop that, you'll go blind!". Sadly it would seem she was too late...

ROFL - what a load of crock

@Napoleon #23

Have you ever heard of the Mongolian empire, Ghenghis and Kubhla Khan? They were the greatest and earliest conquerers, not any French general or leader.

Whilst you should be proud of your heritage, this is a farken rugby site, and the All Black one to boot. So deal with it ffs. The RWC2011 was won by the AB's end of story.

BTW why was it again the French sent spies to NZ to blow up a protest ship? **** according to you we're not worth worrying about... hypocrisy at it's best.
