All Blacks: The Journey is the Destination
2011. What a champion All Blacks year. Hopes; even aspirational dreaming that finally the journey home would end the way it started back in 1987. And, it did. 8-7.
When I penned the first piece on the blog, June 6th, 2010, one could barely conceive the road ahead. This was a new idea, a big idea, which we all hoped would play some small-to-significant part in making 2010, let alone 2011, a year to remember.
The goal was to do our best to offer the greatest sporting talent on the planet a supporter’s movement that not only reflected the McCawesomeness of our team in All Black, but one that also encouraged the fire of the fans to consume with the players. Over the months that have become years, we have watched this big idea burst forth into many people’s joy, with the connection made possible through Telecom.
While the BackingBlack movement was much a-do about forming a four year relationship with William Webb Ellis, it is also just as true that in this All Black world, the journey is the destination. History stands tested by a relentless pursuit for winning perfection that finds momentary rest in the slap on a winning back, even as the eye’s stay on the prize of the challenge of another Test.
Therefore, as we sun in the warm afterglow of our rugby glory; as we now confess our congratulations to Steve Hansen who takes over the coaching throne; as we affirm the worthiness of player of the year - the VolKaino - Jerome Kaino, who definitely went off; let us remember what a special time this has been, so that we are also best placed to do something about it again in the year of 2012.
Now that Bill is home with the Bledisloe, this two out of three ain’t bad year ends. 2012 offers us the opportunity to take the world of rugby champions into a new rugby championship. There are exciting All Black times ahead.
In 2011, we raised the support like never witnessed before, with even our All Blacks physically impacted by the sight. In 2012, while the destination looks a little different; the journey continues, and we all have a seat on the All Black bus.
When this year began, I really couldn’t conceive October 23. Yet, we all lived it, we all loved it – in the end, and I am confident that we all long for more results of the same.
What BackingBlack will look like into 2012 is a fairly guarded secret; nevertheless, the same All Black supporting ideas will be the foundation for our success. We have only just begun. If this is the summit, we will learn how to fly!
On behalf of Telecom and all the team at BackingBlack; have a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and joyous New Year.
As this is my final post for 2011, let me say how much of an honour it has been to spin my web with you throughout. I hope to be bringing it into the future, but until that possible next time, let us sit and rest a while.
Thank you again to the All Blacks family on the field. You provide the reason. There is much Love!
Now that my words have ceased, please share your own reflections; the floor is now yours, Summer.
Until Next Time

"My name is Emerson, I am Brazilian and
fan of rugby and the All Blacks. 2011
was spectacular and 2012 with more
glories to come! All Blacks forever!"
